London Scottish beat Chinnor 17-5 in their first preseason match at the RAG.

James Malcolm and Dan Barnes both went over to score on their debuts for the Scots, with fly-half Harry Sheppard adding the extras.

The visitors’ only points game through a try scored by Charlie Robinson.

In a match which was played in thirds, it was the Scots who scored first. Sheppard landed a simple penalty after seven minutes, 3-0.

A break from Barnes down the left wing nearly saw Miles Wakeling go over to score, but Chinnor were penalised at the ruck and lost Craig Duncan to the sin bin.

Scottish opted to kick to the corner and set up a strong rolling maul, which ended in Malcolm scoring. Sheppard added the extras to bring the scores to 10-0.

The second try of the first third was scored by another debutant in the form of Barnes, who ran in under the posts after some lovely offloading from Mark Bright. Sheppard kicked the extras again, 17-0.

On his try Barnes said: “I saw Brighty going for the pass. He’s a very experienced and talented guy. I’m happy he put me in because he could have gone himself.”

Neither side performed particularly well in the second third; the home side losing Jack Ingall to the sin bin having not dropped back 10 meters after Chinnor were handed a free kick.

The final third saw Chinnor score their only points of the match, when Robinson went over off the back of a five-meter line out. The final score at the RAG was 17-5.

Next week London Scottish travel to Murrayfield to face Edinburgh in their final preseason match.
