2016/17 Junior Rugby Awards Ceremony

15th May 2017
admin

Friday 5th May saw the junior age groups get together for the final time this season with the annual awards ceremony.

With over 130 attending, the evening managed to entertain all ages from the under 13’s through to the under 18’s and junior academy players (who could do with taking some singing lessons).

Most started off with libations and catching up with old friends from across the age groups, before moving onto curry and gossip.

With new CEO Carson Russell and Paul McFarland attending from the Club committee, Paul handed awards to each age group for:

  • Lion Award, for the player with the best attitude and commitment.
  • Most Improved
  • Player’s Player of the year
  • Player of the Season

And the winners were:

Lion Most Improved Player’s Player Player of the Season
Junior Girls Becca LAWN Olivia FULLER Gabby SPENCER Freya AUCKEN
U13’s Jude STRINGER Sam LINDSLEY-FROST Jacob ELEY Felix CHIPCHASE
U15’s Kyrill GUBA Max SILLER Jackson HAYWARD Thomas RUSSELL

A few special awards were also presented during the evening.

The Long Standing award went to players who had played from U7, through all the mini and junior age groups to U18, and will graduate from the juniors this season. Congratulations to:

Josh Ferguson
Ali McLaughlin
Doug McLaughlin
Iain Rees

Loved the recreation of the photo from their days in the minis, even if you couldn’t recognise who was who. Keep playing guys and we look forward to seeing you back, playing for the seniors next season.

Euan Ferguson was recognised by the U17 and Junior Academy players as well as the club. Euan has coached mini and junior age group teams for the past 16 years and ends the season with his U18’s expected to win Division 2 in the Herts and Middlesex League.

The players presented an album of photos from over the years, and the club rewarded him with something to drink, to go with his tankard from the End of Season award for “Outstanding Contribution to Mini and Junior Rugby”. Thanks Euan, from all the players you have coached over the years.

The final award went to all the coaches, who continue the tradition of encouraging players to enjoy the game through running inclusive squads where everyone gets a chance to develop their abilities.

At the end of the day the curry was gone, the bar was dry, and everyone disappeared off into the night, happy.
