Scottish Relegated at the Hands of Blackheath

A sad day for the Exiles as London Scottish’s relegation to National 1 was confirmed after a 27-7 defeat to Blackheath at the Richmond Athletic Ground. Congratulations must first go to the ‘Club’ who thoroughly deserved their win on the day and will enjoy Champ rugby next season.

On the hottest day of the year so far, Blackheath flew out of the traps with great vigour whilst Scottish looked stunned by the occasion. Two quick tries followed in the opening 15 minutes for the away side and a yellow card to Oli Duncan but Blackheath in the ascendency.

Scottish had their chances in the first forty but couldn’t make them pay. A missed line out here, a piece of ill discipline, a knock on cost them dearly in their quest to build pressure and points. As a result, Blackheath were able to hit them with a counter punch that would see Scottish go into the half 21 points down.

The Exiles failed to hit back after the break and Blackheath got a crucial three points after the half time whistle to extend the lead and then were able to largely control the game despite flashes of excellence from the Exiles.

A late Jonny Law try gave Scottish some hope but it all came too late. Blackheath slotted a late penalty to seal the deal and their promotion.

Scottish now look to a summer break and a life in National 1 where they will aim to bounce back at the first attempt whilst Blackheath will enjoy their time in the second tier of English rugby.
