Biggest Season In Years For Amateur Rugby

05th September 2014
admin

This season is promising to be the biggest season of amateur rugby at London Scottish for many years with as many as seven different teams representing the senior amateur side of the club.

The Rampant Lions will once again be out to showcase the young talent emerging from the LSFC academy with more fixtures than ever including a number of exciting midweek fixtures.

The Highlanders have moved up from London Shield 3 last season to London Shield 1 this season which goes to show the ambition within the club for good quality rugby outside the professional game.

The Highlanders are joined in the London Shield by The Claymores who this season are in the third tier of the competition moving up from the merit table after reaching the play-offs last season

The Kilts have progressed from an overspill friendly team last season to gain a permanent place in the Middlesex Merit Table as our top social side and will be keen to go one better than the Claymores managed in May.

The Extra Bs are once again here to show the youngsters what true social rugby is all about and will again be vying to recapture the team of the season award that they won in 2011 and 2012.

Meanwhile we have two veteran teams joining the roster with the Picts looking to play 4 – 6 Veteran matches through the season including matches against ‘The Regiment’, ‘The Bank of England’ and a possible match away in Jersey.

This season will also see the introduction of the Legends who have already competed in a 10s tournament in Wimbledon, the Legends will give supporters the chance to relive old glories as some of the best players from previous generations take to the field.

With this many teams and fixtures to fulfil we have been very busy with a major recruitment drive resulting in a 60 per cent increase new players across all teams.

I would ask everyone associated with the club to make the new guys feel welcome and show them your support.

We are still looking for more players however so if you would like to have a game yourself or you know someone who is keen for a game tell them to get in touch by emailing playrugby@londonscottish.com

We have training on Monday’s and Wednesday and also have plenty of rugby for those who are unable to train.

Saturday, September 6 fixtures

Ealing v Highlanders (away)
Grasshoppers v Claymores (away)
Grasshoppers v Kilts (away)
