Two Sunday’s ago against the Cornish Pirates, back rower Chris Walker brought up his 50th appearance for London Scottish, becoming the second player this season to achieve the feat after Matt Williams did so earlier in the year.

Walker originally signed for Scottish before the 2014/15 season and helped the Scots reach new heights that year as they finished 3rd in the Championship. Walker made nineteen appearances that season scoring the one try. The following season Walker managed seventeen games and was much more prolific as he notched up four scores.

Following two very strong years for the Scots, Walker decided to take the step down into National One with Blackheath so he could combine work with playing rugby. He was recruited back to Scottish this season by Director of Rugby Dave Morris as part of the part-time model and is part of a very strong back row corps with the likes of Danny Kenny and Joe Atkinson.

Much like Matt Williams, Walker is a much a fan favourite down at the RAG, with supporters always cheering him on and loving the tenacity he brings in defence, putting his body on the line every time he wears a Scottish shirt.

The Former age grade All Black and former Taranaki ITM Cup player has had another strong year, wearing the Scottish shirt for nearly 1000 minutes and racking up another 14 fourteen appearances with three games left in the Greene King IPA Championship campaign.

Walker is a vastly respected competitor in the Scottish squad and has been a key piece in the London Scottish jigsaw this season. He was appointed Club Captain at the beginning of the season.

Walker spoke of his honour of representing Scottish. “The club is very special to me, I have met some amazing people over the years; players and supporters who have become friends for life! The club is like family to me. I have made great memories over my time playing for Scottish and have played with some awesome players.

“It was very special playing my first game, let alone my 50th game for Scottish, it’s an honour.”

Director of Rugby David Morris was full of praise for the New Zealand back rower. “Huge congratulations to Chris, not only on his 50th cap but also for his contribution to London Scottish as a whole. Chris sets very high standards for himself and for others around him. He is incredibly consistent with his mentality and physicality that he brings to both training and playing.”

Morris continued to state how important London Scottish is to Walker. “It is really clear to see the affection he has for the club and the people within the club. He represents himself, his family and the club to the highest possible standard. A true warrior and leader through action in a London Scottish Jersey. We are all proud of you Cuzzy.”

Despite Scottish the loss against Pirates down in Penzance, the players and staff acknowledged Chris before the game as he was presented with his 50th cap at the team hotel. Supporters will have the chance to congratulate Cuzzy after the Rotherham game as he will again be presented with his 50th cap. Children are encouraged to come down onto the pitch after the game as part of our Family Fun Day.
