Exciting Education & Rugby Partnership announced for aspiring young players

26th January 2016

London Scottish have partnered up with Southborough High School and their 6th Form in a great initiative to provide aspiring young rugby players the best of both worlds. Great coaching and development at a professional club, combined with superb academic learning at Southborough Sixth Form.

Head Teacher of Southborough High School Mr Niall Smith commented: “In the past, talented football and rugby players had to decide to take one of two routes at the age of 16: either that of a Sports Academy, with a 'sketchy' educational package attached, or they had to put their sporting ambitions to one side and choose full time education at a Sixth Form or college – with no football or rugby coaching in sight. Our new Sixth Form partnership with two such highly respected clubs will change all that for the better.”

The result?  A broad range of aspirational options open to you at the end of your two-year programme: rugby player, coach, sports apprenticeship, good university, P.E teacher, physiotherapist, sports nutritionist, sports management… the list is endless.

The wide range of subjects and courses make it flexible to study A-levels, BTEC or even a combination and with no limit to the student intake, it makes it available for all U16s to U19s in the wider area around Surbiton.

Academy Director and Club Development Manager, Corné du Rand said: “London Scottish and it's Rugby Academy is extremely excited about the strategic partnership with Southborough in Surbiton. The opportunity it gives young players to be identified and developed through a professionally managed rugby academy, while continuing in a strong academic environment, could only produce young people with a bright future ahead of them, whether in sport or whatever career path they might choose.”

The Education & Rugby Partnership will be launched as an open night and rugby trials at the London Scottish Rugby Club on the evening of Wednesday 24th February – 6.30pm start in the Members Bar at the Richmond Athletic Ground, TW9 2SS

If rugby is your dream – but you don't want to compromise on your education – come and find out more about what we have to offer you! Trials for the Rugby Academy will take place on the same evening of the launch – Wednesday 24th February.
