London Scottish have bolstered their front-row options this week by securing the signature of former Scotland A tight-head prop David Young.
The 30-year-old brings a wealth of experience to Scottish having enjoyed spells playing in the English Premiership and PRO12 at Leicester Tigers, Gloucester, Edinburgh Rugby and most recently Newport Gwent Dragons where he joins from.
Young is also accustomed to the physical demands of the Greene King IPA Championship after stints at Jersey and Yorkshire Carnegie and has earned more than 10 caps for Scotland A having come through the international ranks at Under 18, 19 and 21 level.
He said: “I nearly signed for London Scottish a few years ago so it's good to finally get the opportunity to play for such an ambitious club with a great history.
“I've spoken to some former London Scots and they only had positive things to say about the Club.
“You only need to look at where Scottish have come from in the past few years to see they are on the up.”
The former Glenrothes High School pupil continued: “Tight-head prop is an important position and you need strength in depth in the front-row for what is a long, demanding Championship season.
“There are young, upcoming players like Max Maidment and James Hallam at Scottish who I want to push and make better but even at my age I can still learn from a former top internationalist in forwards coach Tim Payne.
“I actually made my first start for Leicester Tigers against Tim when Wasps were one of the best teams in Europe and his pedigree is second to none.”
London Scottish head coach Peter Richards added: “David is a quality operator who will add great experience and depth to our forward pack.
“Max Maidment and James Hallam performed superbly last season but to have top pros like David Young and Ben Prescott in the squad is a huge positive.”
