Highlanders Lose Out To Blackheath

09th January 2015
admin

January 3 would see the return of the Highlanders for the second half of the season in a return fixture against The Highlanders.

The first clash between the Highlanders and Blackheath saw two very strong outfits battle a full 80 minutes at the Richmond Athletic Ground with the Scots prevailing.

This second encounter away from home would be no different.

Both teams from the kick-off would test each other in the tackle and breakdown area with huge hits coming from both sides but Blackheath would draw first blood in the 10th minute from a loose ball from the back of a scrum, making the score 7- 0 to the hosts.

It wouldn't be long before Blackheath ran in another following some miss tackles by the Highlanders which pushed Blackheath 12-0 ahead.

After the second try the Highlanders got back on track, starting to breakdown Blackheath's defence with hard running lines and doggedness at the breakdown.

Highlanders would score their first try in the 24th minute but couldn’t add the extra points.

The game at half-time stood at 12 – 5.

The second half would see a much stronger performance by the Highlanders as they would set up camp in the opposition’s territory for pretty much all of the half.

The Highlanders got over the try line three times but the referee said there was no clear indication that the ball was grounded much to the annoyance of the Highlanders.

The scrum was a key aspect of the Highlanders game on a cold and wet day as their power and supremacy from the forwards was unchallenged by Blackheath.

However it was Blackheath who eventually secured the match 20-10 meaning it was one apiece between the sides this season.
