Highlanders undone by Redingensians

The Highlanders slipped to a narrow 10-3 home defeat against Redingensians at the weekend in a Shield League Two clash.

Despite wet and windy conditions at the Athletic Ground, a decent sized crowd turned up to watch the game played on the back pitches.

Ill-discipline and over eagerness proved the home side's downfall early on as they conceded four penalties in a row.

In defence the Highlanders impressed but another penalty was eventually turned into points by Redingensians who went in at the break 3-0 up as their opponents struggled to hold on to the ball.

The second half started better for the hosts and after a prolonged period of pressure Scottish were awarded a penalty kick which Angus Bowyer converted to level the scores.

They continued on the front foot but were denied by their own mistakes and failed to penetrate the visiting defence.

Redinensians played a clever, tight game in the conditions with their strong running inside centre getting them over the gainline.

Eventually they claimed a vital converted try which proved the difference between the two sides.

It was an improved showing by the Scottish outfit but they have plenty of work to do in training this week before this Saturday's clash away to Barnes' Second Team.

Man of the Match: Hamish Coventry.
