London Scottish are delighted to announce the signing of Jim Thompson from Edinburgh Rugby.

Thompson becomes the fifth Scottish player to sign for the 2012/13 season. The 27 year old Scotland A and Scotland Sevens international already has a London Scottish connection as the nephew of 2012 London Scottish Hall of Fame Inductee, Alan Lawson. His cousin, Gregor Lawson, is also a former London Scottish player.

Thompson, currently away with the Scotland Sevens side, will join up with the squad in early August. London Scottish have worked closely with the Scottish Rugby Union to bring Thompson to the club and he will bring a wealth of experience into the London Scottish backs, having recently been a part of Edinburgh’s impressive 2011/12 Heineken Cup campaign, scoring in the semi final v Ulster.

Thompson is excited about the new challenge that awaits him in London.

Thompson: “It’s a great honour to be joining London Scottish. The club is on the up and going places, and I’m looking forward to being part of a successful season.”

Director of Rugby Simon Amor is looking forward to bringing in another experienced player into the squad as the Exiles continue preparations ahead of their second season in the Championship.

Amor: “Jim is a quality player who can play in a number of positions in the backline. His experience will bring a great attacking threat to our backline.”

London Scottish are excited to be bringing more quality Scottish rugby talent to London, having also signed Phil Godman from Edinburgh, as well as Scots Dave McCall (Rotherham Titans), Colin Quigley and Paul Spivey (both Moseley).

Spivey: “After speaking to Simon, it’s exciting to see the building blocks for the second year in the Championship coming together. I’m looking forward to working with Alex Codling being a second row myself, and developing my own skill set. The new signings we’ve made is a massive statement of the club’s intention.”
