London Scottish has secured a prestigious award by being given the Rugby Football Union’s Club Accreditation.

London Scottish have secured the prestigious RFU Club Accreditation, designed to recognise the excellence of mini and junior sections with clubs. Having served their local community over many years, the club certainly deserved recognition.

Corné du Rand, Club Development Manager, said: “Accreditation has confirmed the club’s commitment to the development of rugby as a major sport and the club’s standing in the community as a respected and forward thinking ambitious club. At London Scottish enjoyment comes first and everyone is welcome to take part in whatever way they are able to. Our volunteers are making up a huge part of our operations in the club, by making a difference in any way they can. Whether it is playing rugby in our minis, youth, senior or pro level sections to coaching, refereeing, managing a team or doing first aid duty, there is a place for everyone to become involved with London Scottish.”

London Scottish CEO Kenny Baillie: “London Scottish FC is extremely proud to have received RFU Club Accreditation. Everyone connected with the Club is delighted that the hard work of our dedicated team of volunteers and community coaches has been recognised by the RFU. This is a significant milestone for London Scottish and we will continue to work hard to ensure that we provide the right environment to develop mini and junior players all the way through to senior rugby.”

Simon Sanderson, Chairman, Junior Rugby said: “The club is dependent on a dedicated band of volunteers, employees and supported by the commercial team to cover the amateur and professional sections. As is often the case most of the volunteer team undertake more than one role and give a considerable amount of their time to providing an affordable and enjoyable rugby experience to the local community.”

“London Scottish is also very lucky to have unique sponsors and their commitment to the club allows the club to continue the work in the community and promote the game of rugby.”

The Rugby Football Union Club Accreditation scheme aims to help all rugby clubs in England become stronger, more effective, more efficient and more enjoyable places to play rugby. Accreditation earns advantages including the Sport England Clubmark recognising the excellence of the mini and youth section together with increased status and credibility with local authorities, educational establishments and potential sponsors.

Corné du Rand said: “With a home Rugby World Cup in 2015 and so close to Twickenham, we expect to attract even more members. This is a great time for our sport and we can guarantee that anyone getting involved at London Scottish will have a marvellous time and make lots of new friends. Whether playing rugby, helping out as volunteers or simply watching the games everyone is welcome and they can see from the plaque on the wall that we are serious about being a club with strong ties to the community and where a friendly environment develop players, referees, coaches and great volunteers! You don’t have to be Scottish to be part of the clan!”

Ty Sterry, RFU Rugby Development Officer for London Scottish, said: “London Scottish is a great example of a thriving rugby club and it has been a pleasure working with them towards achieving this significant accreditation.”
