London Scottish – National League 1 Champions

07th May 2011
admin

London Scottish have been promoted to the Championship after an extraordinary last-minute 13-17 victory over Barking.

David Howells plucked a misplaced Barking pass from the Scottish 22 to race 80 metres to score, and prompt scenes of jubilation from the Scottish hoards that had travelled East.

After being 13-10 down and reduced to 14 men after Alex Karonias' yellow card with only seconds to go, the likelihood of a Scottish victory seemed remote.

Full credit has to go to Barking for a phenomenal season, and it was fitting in a way that the outcome was decided so late on. Both teams traded blows after an early Lewis Calder try had put Scottish ahead, but a penalty try to Barking, followed by two kicked penaltiies had meant that Scottish were trailing for the majority of the second half.

Full match report to follow, after what promises to be a night Scottish jubiliation.
