London Scottish scoop Placement Award

22nd May 2018
admin

Last week the London Scottish Community Team were thrilled to attend the St Mary’s University Placement awards.

After a challenging season of rebuilding for the Community department one of their major successes has been the partnership established with the University of St Mary’s, giving placement students some fantastic opportunities whether that be in coaching opportunities, assisting Joe Luca Smith in the Digital Media department, or assisting our 1stXV Performance analysis team.

To recognise their achievements, Tomoaki Furakawa and Jamie Sellers were both nominated for awards by community manager Andrew Evans who was impressed throughout the season by their work ethic and professionalism. Both have gone on to secure fantastic roles on the completion of their placements with London Scottish and we would like to wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavours and we hope to see them down at The Athletic Ground again soon!

In addition to recognition of placement students, this year St Mary’s decided to honour their placement providers as well for the very first time.

London Scottish were fortunate enough to be included amongst some excellent companies including a major banking group and other sporting associations.

Unfortunately, both Tomoaki and Jamie were pipped to the post for their awards by some excellent students who had also made huge contributions to their organisations. However, we are thrilled to announce the London Scottish came home with the top prize as Outstanding Placement Provider. Community Manager Andrew Evans collected the prestigious award on behalf of the club.

Evans said, “we are extremely honoured to have been recognised for our efforts this season and we would like to thank all our placement students that we have had this year who have contributed their time to London Scottish.”

London Scottish look forward to a continued relationship with St Mary’s helping to provide more students with opportunities to develop themselves and help to add value to future London Scottish initiatives. With London Scottish set to take on yet more placements students for St Mary’s next season, we relish the challenge of retaining our new title.
