The Rampant Lions U19s hosted Bedford Blues Academy on a windy afternoon at the Athletic Ground last Saturday, losing narrowly 24-27.
The Blues, playing with the wind in the first half, made the most of it leading 15-10 at the break scoring three uncovered tries to Scottish’s one and penalty.
The second half was won by the Scots scoring two converted tries against Bedford’s two tries and one conversion.
The large Exiles squad had a number of new players on trial and a good mix of our Junior Academy (Young Lions) and the U19s from the Rampant Lions (Senior Academy).
The challenge on the day was to get a performance out of the game as a squad despite the unfamiliar make up of the squad.
The players did well and at times showed good composure when Bedford was launching attack upon attack in the Scottish 22m in the first half.
Many players impressed on the day and despite losing, the group felt there was lots to improve on and they could have got the right result if the team applied their policies in defence.
The feeling within the management team is that the side played some good rugby and that there is some good talent coming through, which is exciting for the Club!
