London Scottish U14s closed out their Waterfall Cup campaign in style with a dominant 67-5 victory over Cobham B in the Bronze Final. On a glorious day for rugby, the team delivered a sensational performance, with every player making their mark in a fitting finale to the Surrey league season.
From the outset, the Scots imposed themselves on the game, blending powerful forward play with clinical finishing in the backs. The result was a free-flowing display of attacking rugby that left the opposition chasing shadows.
First Half: A Statement of Intent
Scottish wasted no time in asserting control, with the forwards laying down an early marker. Ben and Henry were like whirling dervishes at every breakdown, securing our own ball and jacking Cobham’s ball with regularity; with Jake joining the breakdown fray and spotting a gap to exploit, this trio ensured the Scots played with front foot ball throughout. From a turnover Mikolai opened the scoring, powering over the line after a series of relentless drives from the pack. This set the tone for a dominant first half, with the Scots dictating the tempo and controlling possession. Further dominance at scrum time meant there was no let up, Aleks was immense at Loosehead and ensured we disrupted the Cobham scrum everytime; with Conor providing the pressure from Tighthead the Scots won several scrums against the head. With the forwards building the pressure, it allowed our backs to cut loose. Alexandre, always dangerous with ball in hand, added a superb solo effort, slicing through the Cobham defence with ease. Jean followed up moments later, sniping from close range to extend the lead.
Mikolai, a force throughout, secured his second try of the half, capping off another strong passage of forward play. Freddie then rounded out the first-half scoring, showing great determination and with support from his back rowers driving him over the line. With the forwards making huge inroads and the backs executing with precision, Scottish headed into the break with a commanding lead.
Second Half: Ruthless Finishing
The second half saw the Scots shift into another gear, with Ed taking center stage in a remarkable individual performance. His first try came early in the half, set up brilliantly by the tireless work of the forwards. Callum added the conversion as Scottish continued to pile on the points.
Cobham responded with an intercept try, but it was a brief respite as the Scots quickly reasserted their dominance. Ed struck again, showing electric pace and footwork to tear through the Cobham defence. He then completed his hat-trick minutes later, before adding a fourth and fifth try in what was a spectacular attacking display. His accurate kicking ensured maximum value from each effort, as he added conversion after conversion.
Not to be outdone, Devraj added his name to the scoresheet late on, finishing off a slick passing move from the backs. Another pinpoint conversion from Ed put the final gloss on an emphatic victory.
A Fitting End to the Season
This match was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and progress the squad has made throughout the season. The forwards were immense, winning the physical battle and providing clean ball, while the backs executed with precision and confidence. Callum marshalled the team superbly, keeping the attack structured and kicking intelligently to pin Cobham back.
Mikolai and Freddie provided relentless power up front, Jean was back to his best at scrum-half, and Eddie, Alexandre and Devraj added pace and flair in the back three. The team’s cohesion and unselfish play ensured a spectacular all-around performance to cap off the campaign.
A huge congratulations to every player who contributed to this incredible run in the Waterfall Cup. The focus now turns to the final two fixtures of the season, as the squad looks to finish on a high. If this performance was anything to go by, there’s plenty more exciting rugby to come.
