Mhairi Buckley (neé Gillanders) 1973-2018

22nd January 2018

It is with great sadness we announce that club stalwart, Mhairi Buckley passed away on Sunday 14 January 2018.

Born in Inverness and educated at St Leonards School, St Andrews and Aberdeen University, she came to London in the late 90s, to work in recruitment and HR.  One of her first clients was club member Paul Main, who introduced her to London Scottish in the early noughties. Mhairi found a home from home – the very purpose for which the club was formed in 1878.  She quickly became a passionate supporter, travelling to away matches in such far-flung places as Cornwall, Tynedale, Galway and Jersey and, not forgetting, erm, Barking!  She also followed the national side around Europe in the 6Nations and recently visited Dubai to watch the Scotland 7s side.

As well as forming friendships with many club members, Mhairi endlessly brought her own friends and acquaintances down to the Athletic Ground, becoming one of the club’s best recruiters.  She delivered a memorable “Reply from the Lassies” at a club Burns Supper (more than once) and was an early investor in LSIL, bringing her intelligence, insight and energy to their meetings.

Our heartfelt condolences go to her husband Gary and parents George and Mary.  Mhairi was an inspiration to us all and will live long in our memories.

Mhairi’s family would like as many London Scots as possible to attend her funeral.  A service will be held at 10:45 on Friday 26 January at Dunfermline Crematorium, Masterton Road, Dunfermline  KY11 8QR and afterwards at The Woodside Hotel, 78-82 High Street, Aberdour  KY3 0SW.  It has been requested that no-one wears black and family flowers only.  If you wish, you may make donations to https://mhairi-buckley.muchloved.com
