London Scottish can today reveal the exciting signing of Namibian international Tjiuee Uanivi from Glasgow Warriors.
The 26-year-old can play either second-row or flanker, and has played in some of the top divisions of world rugby including the Top 14, Super Rugby and Guinness Pro 12.
Uanivi featured for Brive in France between 2013 and 2015, before signing for the Sharks in South Africa in 2016. He then joined Glasgow for the 16/17 season, and will follow a similar journey to many who have left Scotstoun for a stint at the Athletic Ground.
The 6ft 7” versatile forward has earned 15 caps for his country so far after making his debut in 2014, and those appearances include the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England.
Uanivi is excited for a new challenge in the Greene King IPA Championship:
“I’m really looking forward to heading to London and linking up with London Scottish ahead of the new season. The new coaches are ambitious and the squad looks strong, so I’m excited to test myself in the Championship because it seems to get more competitive each year.”
He added: “I thank the club for this opportunity and hope I can bring new qualities to help the team be successful.”
Director of Dave Morris is thrilled to add some international quality to the squad.
“We are delighted to welcome Tjiuee to London Scottish. Having been part of Glasgow Warriors squad last season I’m sure Tjiuee has a warmth for Scotland and its people. I spoke at length to his Glasgow Warriors team mate Alex Allan whom I coached at Loughborough University and liked what I heard about him as a player and a person.”
“This was backed up watching his footage. He will bring tremendous athleticism to the second row which will really show in the lineout and around the field. He will arrive battle hardened after playing international rugby for Namibia over the summer.”
