Scottish Unable to Contain Doncaster Onslaught

With an injury crisis across the backline, Scottish were only able to field a side that contained two debutants, two fly halves and four scrum halves across the matchday 23. Not ideal preparation for taking on a full time side in Doncaster.

However, the Scots can be proud with the way they applied themselves and got into an armwrestle with Doncaster for much of the game. An onslaught either side of half time undid the Exiles but it was enough to give the coaches and playing group a lot of hope going into the final rounds of the season and crucial play off fixtures.

For the first half an hour it was an incredibly tight game at Castle Park with Scottish arguably having the upper hand for much of the game to that point. To the point where the Scots opened the scoring through Jimmy Staples who broke a tackle in the 22 to dive for the line and take the lead for his side.

Doncaster through hit back with two tries just before the back largely caused by Scottish mistakes. The brought the two sides into the sheds with the game in the balance but a lot of hope for the Exiles.

The hosts, however, reacted faster after the break and race in for three quick tries to break the spirit of London Scottish. Making the most of their forward power and prowess in the tight areas Doncaster gained the upper hand and racked up a lead.

Scottish hit back in the final quarter of the game, looking better for at least a score if not more but were unable to take advantage of the territory and possession afforded to them. The game ended 34-5 but with Scottish buoyed by a performance that showed a lot of grit and determination with backs against the wall. A good sign for the coming weeks.
