Peter Lydon today received the Player of the Season Award for the 2015/16 season, which was presented at Watches of Switzerland by CEO Brian Duffy.
The full-back was presented with a Tag Heuer Formula One watch at their flagship store in Regent Street, after scoring 210 points in 26 matches throughout the campaign.
The Irishman has now made 55 appearances for the Scots since joining in 2014, scoring 469 points in that time.
This season the 23-year-old has scored four crucial match-winning kicks, which included a last minute penalty at Headingley to register a 30-27 victory against Yorkshire Carnegie, followed a week later by a drop goal in the 79th minute at home to London Welsh, securing an 11-10 win.
Lightning struck twice later in the season, with an 80th minute touchline conversion completing the double against Yorkshire Carnegie, and another one the week after gave the Scots a 19-17 win at Old Deer Park.
Lydon was thrilled to receive the award. “Coming in to this Watches of Switzerland store and seeing all of the timepieces was amazing.
It was awesome to get the Tag and great to get something for your efforts, so I look forward to hopefully a better season for everyone on the pitch next year.”
Head Coach Peter Richards was full of praise for Lydon. “Well done to Peter, he fully deserves this award. He has been a stand-out player for us this year, his work ethic and commitment are first rate and a testament to his success.”
Club President Rod Lynch paid tribute to Lydon for his contribution in the 15/16 campaign.
“Peter Lydon has had a massive impact on our season playing at full-back, and latterly at fly-half. He has shown himself to be a great all-rounder, scoring tries, kicking points, and masterminding games.
He continued: “I am delighted he has signed for next year because I think the best is yet to come from him.”
