In a game brutally dictated by the conditions from torrential ran and thick mud at the RAG, Saracens descended on West London to pick up a victory in the Premiership Cup. However, despite the 20-0 scoreline, London Scottish come out of the fixture with great credit due to the physicality they brought to the occasion and a never say die attitude which kept Saracens at bay for large sections of the game.
On a wet, windy and very muddy night at the RAG, kicking was the the order of the day for both sides as running rugby was at a premium. Saracens looked to use their driving maul and forward pack to power through their forward pack but were consistently thwarted by their opponents.
Despite giving away a lot of weight and experience to their opposite numbers, the Exiles only gave up a singular try scored wide out in the corner and a penalty in the first half. They also almost had a try or two of their own but just couldn’t find that final pass or touch to get on the scoreboard.
The second half was much the same as the first half. Scottish looked more energetic and tried to play the rugby but were just stopped on many occasions by the conditions and by their opponents.
As the game wore on Saracens did manage to get their forward pack into the game and scored a brace of tries. Both took a lot of hard work and attempts at the line to the credit of London Scottish.
Overall, both sides will probably leave the RAG with a smile on their face. Saracens with the win but Scottish demonstrated what they were truly about against their Premiership opponents and impressed many fans on Friday evening.
