Scottish Fall Agonisingly Close on Bumper Day

Knocking on the door of the opposition’s line in the dying seconds to secure a famous victory is not an unfamiliar story for London Scottish this season. In another thrilling contest at the RAG, the Exiles fell just short of Bedford Blues in a hugely entertaining game.

London Scottish started the faster of the two sides with great pressure but a lack of accuracy. Eventually the pressure told when Jack Ingall found a sensational offload to scrum half and co-captain Dan Nutton who would race in under the sticks.

Bedford quickly hit back as they exploited space through the outside channels as Scottish failed to contain the pace of the Blues backs.

However, Scottish would soon retake the lead as Cassius Cleaves appeared to knock on in the wide channels. However, the referee group saw nothing amiss and in the chaos he race through to offload to fellow winger Noah Ferdinand who would score under the posts.

Despite this Bedford regathered themselves quickly to find three quick scores once again through their outside back and open up a 10-point lead over the Exiles. With the wind in the favour of London Scottish they knew they had to get at least a score back before the break and did just that through Jack Musk and the driving maul which delivered on the break.

Scottish would bring the scores level after half time when Scottish got the ascendency at the scrum and a few phases later Tom Osoborne crashed over for that crucial score.

This appeared to spark Bedford into life as they built a period of pressure in the London Scottish 22 and duly took a shot at goal when offered the chance. Back down in Scottish territory the Blues extended their lead battering their way over from short range to take the score to 24-34 to the away side.

Scottish fought back well in the latter stages of the game with Charlie Ingall making his return from injury to score in the corner and cut the deficit to just a score. A late break from Hayden Hyde almost saw the Exiles claim a famous victory but a last ditch tackle forcing a knock on gave Bedford the victory.
