Scottish went into the 83 minute at Ampthill six points down and with a line out on the opposition 5m line. However, a fantastic steal from the Ampthill pack would prevent Scottish coming away with their first win against Ampthill since the midlands side joined the league.
Scottish’s day would start fast with Dan Nutton pouncing on a loose ball to score within the opening ten minutes. Ampthill though would hit back and do exactly the same to Scottish as both sides failed to keep control of possession in the middle third.
The Exiles began to take control of the first half after that point as Noah Ferdinand crossed in the corner off a lovely kick through from Ludo Kolade in his second appearance for the Club. Sean Kerr would land a penalty straight after to extend the lead beyond a score.
Tom Wilstead would then take advantage of a broken field defence to scythe through for his first try of the season and bring Scottish’s lead up to 12 points. However, in the dying embers of the half Scottish would concede in the corner after sustained Ampthill pressure and go down to 14 men with captain Bailey Ransom receiving a yellow card.
After the break, Ampthill ramped up the pressure on Scottish and scored twice with the Exiles down a man as the Scots failed to exit from their own 22.
However, it would be Scottish’s turn to flip the game on it’s head as Ludo Kolade crashed through the middle of the defence for a wonderous first phase score.
Once again though Scottish failed to exit and conceded a six try which took them back behind. Scottish would go within a point of Ampthill has Hayden Hyde dove into the corner for his score but the conversion went wide.
Ampthill then took their chance as Scottish kicked loosely and didn’t handle the bouncing ball well enough to score the crucial points.
The game ended with Scottish working their way up the field to give themselves one last chance but it was not to be as the Exiles continue to search for an illusive win but show real signs of growth as they put in a strong display to be one play away from a big result.
