Scottish Kick Start Season at Cambridge

London Scottish ignited their Champ campaign on Saturday afternoon as they took down Cambridge at Ellgia Fields. After a fortnight that’s seen plenty of endeavour, possession and territory but little in the way of scores and results, the Exiles shook of the shackles and ran in six tries to lift themselves up the table.

Cambridge started the faster of the two side drawing penalties from their opposition and forcing their way deep into Scottish territory. They came away with three points from a simple kick in front of the sticks.

However, Scottish quickly hit back as Noah Ferdinand burst through the defence off a lovely first phase move. He was dragged down just short but a quick recycle saw Hayden Hyde dive down in the corner for the opening score.

Cambridge matched their opposition for the next period though as they grabbed a score of their own. A well worked tried built by the forwards and finished off well from short range.

Scottish then began to take control of the game, the set piece began to function and the ill discipline slipped out of the game to allow them to manage territory and possession. A long rang score from captain Bailey Ransom followed by his fellow back row partner Seb Driscoll crashing over on debut.

After the break, the opening minutes of the half were always going to be crucial. Scottish weathered an early Cambridge score and then came out firing. A short range effort from Matt Wilkinson got the scoreboard moving again and then a lovely long range effort from Murray Bellis who grabbed his first for the Club.

Scottish would see the rest of the game out relatively calmy aside from a late Cambridge try. It was by no means a perfect display from the Exiles, there are a few touch up point to work on in the week but a much improved display and the five points to show for it.
