With London Scottish playing on Friday night, the focus for those looking to watch rugby on Saturday turns to the London Scottish Lions. Both of the Lions teams are set to play on Saturday, with two important away games in the North and West London area.
After completing an unbeaten 2018, the Lions 1st XV, currently top of Herts Middlesex 2, are away to Haringey Rhinos. Earlier in the season the Lions put in a hearty performance to beat the Rhinos at home, and more of the same is required to keep the championship win in sight.
With only two defeats to their name and fresh off thumping local rivals Hammersmith and Fulham last weekend, the Lions 2nd XV are in the hot seat for the play-offs of MMT2. A win is needed to keep pressure on leaders London New Zealand (formerly Chiswick RFC 4s) who have won every game to date, bar a loss to us in November.
There is everything to play for right now for the London Scottish Lions, and with excellent coaching from former London Scots David Box and Fraser Lyle, the teams are playing fast and flowing multiple phase rugby that is a joy to watch. The team has been gathering support online and at games, with some 30 or 40 fans attending the last home match.
We encourage fans of London Scottish to attend one of the Lions matches this weekend, and furthermore when there is no Championship game to get behind Scottish amateur rugby.
