London Scottish made the perfect start to 2025 with a 48-26 victory over Cambridge at Ellgia Fields. Running in eight tries across the game, the Exiles put in a dominant display to record their fourth victory of the season and move up to eight in the season.
The game began at a frenetic pace with Scottish winning two quick turnover in the first ten minutes resulting in two early tries. The first coming from Matt Wilkinson picking up a loose ball to streak in from 25m and the second through Hayden Hyde after some lovely hands from the backs put him away in the corner.
Cambridge would then gain a foothold in the game and dominate much of the rest of the first half. Their power and set piece game proving a lot for the Exiles to handle. This resulted in a try from the maul as the blood & sands rumbled in from long range.
However, Scottish sparked back into life to score two more tries just before the break and secure the bonus point. With the backs getting clean ball Will Trenholm capitlised on a lovely break from fly half Jamie Benson for the third score of the afternoon. Will Brown then got in on the act to score from range just before the break.
Scarred by second half turnarounds, the Exiles knew they need to react well after the break. They did just this scoring immediately after half time through debutant Will Joseph who crashed through from first phase. This was quickly followed up by a second for Will Brown who enjoyed his afternoon on the wing.
The remainder of the game was a scrappy affair with Cambridge capitalising well on mistakes. They would score three more tries to London Scottish’s two in the latter stages to bring up a bonus point of their own.
However, the day belonged to the Exiles who put in their performance of the season to move up to eight in the table and next welcome Hartpury to the RAG to try and keep a winning run going.
