Successful tour for Scottish ends with comeback win over Ayr

15th August 2010

London Scottish enjoyed their first taste of action this weekend, as they fought out two tough games against Scotland’s best.

After a long train journey to the capital, the visitors were a little taken aback by the intensity of the Scottish Premiership champions Currie on Friday night at Malleny Park, eventually succumbing to a 34-13 defeat.

After a good night's rest, the party headed south west to take on Ayr, who had finished a close second to Currie in the league, but won the Scottish Cup by beating Melrose at Murrayfield.

An entirely different XV took to the field as Head Coach Simon Amor gave game time to his whole squad, with a number of debutants pulling on the famous blue jersey for the first time. In a side led by Darell Ball, the new faces included Sam Harding (ex-Northampton Saints and Ulster), Chris Elder (London Wasps) and Alex Page (Blackheath).

Despite being behind for the majority of the game, a young and inexperienced team launched a terrific comeback to secure a thrilling 28-22 triumph, thanks to a try from John Bordiss some three minutes from time.

Amor will have learnt plenty about his side over the course of the weekend, and the players were pleased to return to the field after a summer of hard work on the training field.

Thoughts now turn to next Saturday, when London Welsh visit the Athletic Ground for the third friendly of the four match pre-season campaign, before it all starts for real against Blackheath on 4th September.

The match kicks off at 3pm, with tickets on the door costing £10.

Members tickets are priced at £5.
