The Highlanders continue their unbeaten run

This past week the London Scottish highlanders welcomed Cambridge 2s to the Athletic Ground in their fourth game of the Zoo Sports Shield.
The Highlanders were unbeaten in the league and were looking to continue their good form. Their previous outing against Chinnor 2s resulted in a win but the players and coaches were not happy with the 31 points they had allowed in the game.

The Highlanders started brightly, as they have done in all their previous outings, flying out the blocks Rob Stevenson was first to crash over the whitewash. Some deft footwork and abrasive carrying carried Stevenson over the line to open the scoring.

The second try was down to a moment of brilliance from scrum half Josh Barton. Cambridge 2s cleared their lines deep and Matt Williams returned the ball with vigour. He managed to offload to Barton who scooted down the short side to leave him one-on-one with the full back. Calmly as you like, Barton drew the full back and chucked out a Sonny Bill Williams-esque offload out the back of his hand to an on running Calum Digby who had a clear run to the line.

Fly Half Aaron Booth added a third try before the end of the half. The Highlanders went into the changing rooms at half time leading 19-5.

The first twenty minutes of the second half were much of the same, the Highlanders were firing on all cylinders. Two driving maul tries from well executed lineouts scored by Max Berry and captain Chris Walker increased the Landers lead to 29-5.

After these two driving maul tries, Cambridge rallied and ended the game the stronger of the two teams. They scored two very well worked tries, capitalising on a yellow card shown to try scorer Chris Walker.

The final whistle went and the Highlanders continued their good run during the 2017/18 season winning 29-15.
