Week two of London Scottish Under 8s season got off to a great start, with over 20 athletes turning up. We had a great mix of veterans and new players, with some never having played rugby before.
The veterans were really helpful explaining our warm up games and making the new players feel welcome.
We had some outstanding play this week, showing that a lot of the team must have put real effort in during the off-season.
One of our break out players from last season, Campbell, has enjoyed a great start to the season and rightly walked away with the joint player of the week award. His great attitude and leadership skills were on full display this week – with the World Cup starting this week thoughts will inevitable go towards the future and getting Campbell to commit to England over New Zealand could be key to England’s success in RWC 2027.
Caleb, only playing in his second week for Scottish had one of the best practices I have seen in a long time. His defensive play and distribution were fantastic, and rightly earned him the joint player of the week award.
Next week Scottish have their first away fixture and I know they will be keen to show off their skills.
