Winning Start For The Claymores

26th September 2014
admin

The first league game for newcomers, the Claymores, to The Shield leagues came in the form of an away game at Old Reigatians in Surrey.

The match proved to be a dream start for the Claymores who recorded a 40-28 victory

After a disjointed first half, with the Claymores being penalised heavily, the team started to rally and become more settled and aware of their problems.

With the half time score at 21-7 to the home team it was not looking good for the visiting team.

The second half saw a more charged but organised side, no penalties and plenty of focus on the game plan.

With some players playing out of position and number 9, Ewan Robertson, moving to flanker and new arrival, Will Edwards, in the centres from the bench as well as Tom Inglis moving in to scrum half, the team started putting plays together and was rewarded with an excellent second half performance and comeback to beat the home team 40-28 and get their campaign on the road!

Paul Robertson, Claymores coach, said: “Really proud of the boys. They showed maturity in the second half and the London Scottish will to win to get the desired result away from home.”

Man of the match: Josh Smith playing out of position the second row!

Next up for the Claymores is Esher 3’s at The Athletic Ground on Saturday, 27th of September 14:00 KO.
