Scottish now find themselves rooted in the relegation play off series at the end of the 2025/26 season. Knowing they will almost certainly play rivals Richmond in the first round to secure their position in the Champ next season, all attention has turned to building momentum and confidence going into a massive game.
However, Scottish find themselves in the midst of an injury crisis in the backs. With 10 backs injured and multiple of these out for the season, Scottish will have to field a bare bones squad for their trip to Doncaster. We sat down with Joe Gray to discuss how his squad are managing the challenges.

“We’ve known for a while that we the play offs were a possibility and even a probability. We needed to do a lot in this final block to pull ourselves out of it. As a result, we have a huge few weeks ahead but the group is excited for the challenge of it all. We have an opportunity to create some special memories together and do something exciting but that will only happen if we pull together over these next few weeks and build some momentum.
Doncaster are a strong side but we have had success against them before, if we are physical and front up in the tight exchanges I’m confident we can spring a surprise.”

Speaking on the injury crisis his side finds itself in Joe gave this update “we’ve lost a lot of guys to injury and the nature of the regulations means we don’t have a lot of flexibility to bring guys in to cover. Our partner Club Quins are also facing similar issues we are having to mix and match a lot.
It’s something that we’ve dealt with all season but it’s certainly reached a pinch point over the last couple of weeks. It’s going to be tough to get through this next week or two but sometimes things like this can pull a squad together and I know our boys are going to pull for each other and keep fighting under tough circumstances.”
