The Rampant Lions, secured an impressive 29-14 win over Ealing Trailfinders at Richmond Athletic Ground last Saturday.

Both teams fielded strong squads with some promising young talent from each Academy side on display.

Under 18 players Kas Eelman, Dean Oliver, James Ferguson, Alastair Donkor, Fin Robjohn and Bradley Ugodulunwa all made their debuts for the Rampant Lions and impressed throughout.

The breakdown area and fierce defence showed this local rivalry was living up to its derby billing early on.

The Rampant Lions enjoyed early dominance and Charlie Dockery would go over for the first try, adding his own extra points for 7-0.

The crowd did not have to wait long for another try as London Scottish's forwards would play out a perfectly well drilled and executed driving maul for Alex Brown to go over for the second try of the game.

Dockery couldn't add the extra points.

Hard hits continued to be exchanged, especially from the likes of forwards Alex Brown, Clarke Smith, Dean Oliver and Sam Nixon.

Strong scrummaging from the Scottish pack was led by starting front row trio Maurice Nwakor, Charlie Currie and Tom Pellet and the Scots crossed for a third try allowing them to go in at the break 17-7 ahead.

The second half saw the return of London Scot Harry McCartney from injury.

Harry contributed from the start through solid defence and showed why he has been sorely missed this season.

London Scottish drew first blood in the second half in the 58th minute with McCartney going over the white wash following another excellent drive by the forwards which made it 22-7.

Ealing would fight hard forcing the Rampant Lions back into their own territory and pushing over for a try of their own for 22-14.

The Rampant Lions then piled on the pressure at the RAG and Charlie Dockery went over for another try after some great interplay and a lovely touch by U18 scrum half, Fin Robjohn, offloading to Dockery speeding through a small space down the touch line to finish.

Dockery added the extra points for 29-14.

The Academy games at U19, U21 and U23 level allows our youngsters to compete in the same age bracket and compare their development, whilst Senior Academy and Senior rugby games give them the chance to test themselves and grow a harder edge.
