Community Update: February 2016

04th March 2016
admin

On the back of an extremely busy January and February the Athletic Ground played host to over 50 young rugby players during the February half term break.

Young rugby players aged 6-16 attended the February half term rugby camp which ran over three days from Tuesday 16th February – Thursday 18th February.

The camps provide players with the opportunity to continue to play rugby during their school holidays and work on areas of the game that they may need to improve when playing for either their club or school.

With coaching tips on offer from both the London Scottish community coaches and professional players across all three days, it's a great way for players to spend their school holidays whilst improving their rugby skills.

Numbers have been fairly consistent across all of our camps this season but the February camp was one of the biggest that we have run in recent years which is down to all the good work that the  boys continue to do out in the community at local schools and clubs.

We have now entered the second coaching block of the Spring term which is just as busy as the first with regular coaching in 10 local schools where the programme will work with over 600 pupils over the next five weeks.

With a short half term the Easter camp suddenly doesn't seem so far away and we are hoping for similar numbers attending this as we did the February camp. Book now to avoid disappointment!

The forthcoming camp will run during the first week of the Easter half term break for 3 days from Tuesday 29th March – Thursday 31st March 2016 and is open to those aged 6-16. All abilities welcome.

Mini's Rugby Report:

February proved to be another busy month for the London Scottish mini's section with regular training and fixtures as well as a number of new faces joining the club across the age groups.

With back to back fixtures at the end of January, age groups enjoyed some much needed down time allowing them to concentrate on training for a couple of weeks before welcoming two local clubs for a triangular fixture on Sunday 28th February.

Hammersmith & Fulham and Barnes attended the Athletic Ground with squads from U7 – U12 which proved for a great day of rugby for all with some great talent on show across all age groups.

With Barnes unfortunately unable to field a side at U12 level it was a short training session with Club Development Manager Corne du Rand on the breakdown before playing a triangular fixture between visiting side Hammersmith & Fulham and our neighbours Richmond RFC.

All in all a great day that left players of all age with smiles on their faces. We very much look forward to welcoming both clubs back to the Athletic Ground in the near future.

With Middlesex festivals, amongst others now fast approaching, March looks like another busy month for the London Scottish mini's section before the Easter half term break.

Good luck to all who are playing in the Middlesex festivals in the next couple of weeks!
