After a stellar October, the London Scottish Lions won the RFU’s Level 7 team of the month award. With a near perfect month the Lions rose to the top of their league and put a marker down for the rest of the season as their section continues to grow.
“It’s a real honour to have been given this award. As much as the players have excelled on the pitch, there are many others off the pitch that contribute to the success of the team. Our third promotion in as many seasons requires relentless dedication from the coaching and support staff, led by Director of Rugby, David Box. They are ably supported by our Executive Committee ensuring everything is in place behind the scenes to reflect what happens on the pitch. Finally, we are indebted for the help of volunteer players from the squad who keep our social media channels up to date with video clips, photos, comments and match day information. A big shout out to David Greene, Gavin Kinder, Jem Edwards for helping run the Lions social channels”. – Doug Cowie – London Scottish Lions President
“Knowing we were approaching a tough month of fixtures, there was a noticeable lift in intensity at training. Victory at home to Finchley was the toughest encounter with our oppo sitting top of the league. Unhindered by Storm Babet the boys put in strong shifts, to back-up that great result, against Enfield and Welwyn in very soggy conditions – it’s fair to say we have a few lads that prefer the sunshine. The great thing about this squad is we have the ability to score in multiple ways, with all score sheets reflecting this as the squad spread the tries around. Inspired by an influx of French talent this summer we’ve had more confidence in spraying the ball around, irrespective of conditions, and feel this season is again a year where we can push the top teams very hard for promotion spots. November sees us play 3 games, in particular the hosting of our 22/23 season rivals, Cheshunt. These are the sort of high quality and tense fixtures we get supremely excited about and can’t wait to meet head on.” Angus Clogg, Club Capt, London Scottish Lions.
“As the Director of Rugby for the London Scottish Lions, I couldn’t be prouder of our exceptional players and their unwavering commitment to maintaining the high standards and expectations we set week in and week out. Both our Lions and Lions B’s teams boast a squad of players who wholeheartedly embrace our brand of rugby. Since our inception as a club in the 2018/19 season, it’s been truly inspiring to witness the incredible progress we’ve made. This success is a testament to the outstanding support from members of the committee, dedicated support staff, selfless volunteers, and our incredibly talented playing group. Together, we’ve propelled the London Scottish Lions to new heights, and the journey of continued progression as a club is an exciting one to be a part of. On a personal note, I’d like to use this platform to thank all those who have contributed to the success of the London Scottish Lions so far.” David Box – London Scottish Lions Director of Rugby.
