London Scottish announces My Name’5 Doddie Foundation as Charity Partner for 2019 Legends Dinner

London Scottish is proud to confirm that My Name’5 Doddie Foundation (MNDF) will be the official Charity Partner for the 2019 Legends Dinner at The Hurlingham Club on Thursday 16 May.

MNDF is a remarkable charity set up in November 2017 by former Scotland international Doddie Weir and his trustees, a few months after Doddie himself was diagnosed as suffering from Motor Neurone Disease (MND). The Foundation works tirelessly to raise funds to further the research into finding potential cures for MND as well as supporting those affected by the disease.

One of the most recognisable faces in world rugby, Doddie Weir won 61 caps for Scotland and two championships during his illustrious playing career and was selected for the successful 1997 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa. Coincidentally, London Scottish 2019 Hall of Fame inductee, Rob Wainwright, toured with Doddie in South Africa.

London Scottish President Paul Burnell said, “We are delighted and very proud to announce that the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation will be our Charity Partner for the 2019 Legends Dinner. All of us in the rugby and Scottish communities have taken Doddie’s Foundation to our hearts. Through our partnership, and with what we hope will be a highly successful fundraising element of our Legends Dinner in May, we want to lend our support to its ongoing quest to help find a cure for the devastating disease that is Motor Neurone.”

Jill Douglas, CEO of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation added, “Once again the rugby family has come together to give its generous support to My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.  We are delighted to benefit from the Legends Dinner at the Hurlingham Club in May.  London Scottish has already been highly supportive of Doddie and the Foundation and we are very grateful for their on-going help.  Since we launched the Foundation in November 2017, we have been able to commit more than £2 million to vital MND research and over £350,000 to help families live with this terrible disease. This is only possible thanks to the amazing support we receive from people like you who are going the extra mile to get behind our cause.  Thank you for your support and I hope you all have a tremendous night celebrating rugby, friendship and the Club: London Scottish.”

London Scottish stages two major fundraising events each year where we raise funds for LSFC as well as our charity partner.  We supported My Name’5 Doddie Foundation through fundraising at the 2017 St Andrew’s Day Lunch, and MNDF as well as Cure Parkinson’s through last year’s Legends Dinner.  Warren’s Wish was our charity partner for the 2018 St Andrew’s Day lunch held at the Savoy.
