Alex Toolis has signed to join London Scottish next season, the Club is delighted to announce.

The 27 year old who stands at 6 foot 7 inches tall has most recently been playing his rugby for Japanese side Kurita Water Gush.

The Australian born lock grew up in Brisbane and played for the prestigious GPS Old Boys School. Following a standout season in Queensland Premier Rugby, Alex signed with Edinburgh in 2013 along with his brother Ben, who has played international rugby for Scotland and is currently still at Edinburgh in the Pro 14.

Both brothers have played together on two occasions, once for London Irish during a loan spell in 2013 in the LV Cup and once whilst they were both at Edinburgh.

Toolis was looking forward to an exciting new challenge at the RAG.

“I am really looking forward to working and playing with the boys at London Scottish. I’m excited to be back in the UK, share my experiences from rugby overseas and make the most of this fantastic opportunity.”

Toolis made 25 appearances for Edinburgh during his three seasons there. In 2016 he returned back to his native Australia to play for the Super Rugby side the Melbourne Rebels and provincial rugby in the National Rugby Competition (NRC) playing for Melbourne Rising. Fellow signing Matt Gordon also played in the NRC for Queensland Country.

Director of Rugby Dave Morris was very excited to get Alex over and integrated into next season’s squad.

“Alex is a player with immense quality, we are thrilled that he has decided to join the Club. He will bring considerable size to our pack for next season and experience from top class environments which he has been in previously.”
